A few weeks ago I noticed we had unused space and unused Macs. So I decided to put the two together and that was the beginning of Open Stations.
Open Stations is not a new idea, but a new twist on the common idea of free Internet hotspot. Anyone can come in anytime we're open to check email, surf the web...typical computer stuff.
What makes Open Stations different is that creative folk can also produce work.
On the pictured station we've setup a starter recording studio equipped with a Power Mac G5, dual displays, USB Midi Keyboard and Altec Lansing speakers (with remote). The G5 is running Tiger 10.4.11 and Garageband (as well as the rest of iLife '06). Anyone with the creative ambition is free to use the Open Station, and there's no charge of any kind.
As time goes on we'll continue to add more capability to this station, and it was recently suggested that we add Final Cut Pro for young filmmakers. Sounds good to us.
What do you think?
